Nebuliser vs Pollution Mask
Nebuliser vs Pollution Mask
Many of us face living in a polluted environment every day. Whether we commute to work, go out to eat, or simply go for a stroll on a lazy Sunday afternoon, pollution can be a constant companion in the metropoles of today.
Fortunately, modern technology puts several responsive measures at our disposal that can help keep our bodies safe from the pollution. However, faced with an abundance of choice, you may be asking yourself: Should I buy a Nebuliser, or a Pollution Mask?
The short answer is: it depends.
Nebulisers are good for treating existing conditions. They can be very effective at administering targeted doses, especially for children or adults suffering from severe impediments to their ability to inhale. They can be geared specifically to a person’s needs, as the timing of the treatments and their chemical composition is adaptable. Hence, if you are already experiencing inhaling difficulties, we strongly recommend you consult your doctor and get a nebuliser as quickly as possible.
On the other hand, nebulisers tend to be noisy and usually take a long time to administer (about 15 minutes). During the treatments, you need to sit still and inhale deeply, which makes it difficult especially for children. As such, nebulisers are less suitable as a constant measure against air pollution. Naturally, they are also difficult to carry around when you go about your daily business in the city.
If you’re looking for prevention and continuous protection, on the other hand, a Pollution Mask is the right choice for you. Pollution Masks can be used anywhere, at any time, without needing electricity or chemicals. You need to ensure pollutants are effectively filtered from the air you breathe, both those we can detect with our human senses such as dust, and those we can’t, such as PM2.5.
To summarise: If you are already unwell, consider a nebuliser and if you are in an polluted environment considering wearing a pollution mask as well, to prevent future problems. As always even if you are not unwell but living in polluted conditions you should be thinking about a pollution mask for you and your family as a preventative measure to future illness.
So how do you pick the right mask for you? There are some key indicators that can show you whether a mask is worth your money or not.
First and foremost, make sure that the filters within the mask can protect us from pollutant in the air we breathe. Simple cotton masks or dust masks as they are sometimes known are simply not built to protect against air pollution and in particular the fine particulate matter which creates health issues.
Second, the mask must fit your face. It may seem obvious, but a mask cannot be fit for its purpose if polluted air can slip past the mask left and right. Thus, finding a mask that offers a range of different sizes is a definite plus if you want optimal protection for you and/or your children.
If you are still unsure, you can check whether the masks you are looking at are also distributed to companies or public institutions. This factor alone should not determine your decision, but knowing that a retailer enjoys the trust of schools or hospitals is definitely an additional assurance that you are going for a high-quality pollution mask.
